Counters

Created by PGR Admin, Raz.

Heatran is weak to Ground, Water and Fighting. The best counters must have ground type moves, as it does double super effective damage against Heatran. The chart above has a variety of counters to choose from. Let’s dive into a few:

Garchomp
The dragon/ground type pseudo legendary pokemon is ideally the best counter to Heatran, with access to mudshot as its fast move, and Earth Power as its charged move (Which you could get during Gible Community Day) It deals double super effective damage to Heatran.

Rhyperior
This ground/rock pokemon has access to Mud Slap and Earthquake with both being very hard hitting ground type moves, it is a great counter to Heatran.

Groudon
This pure ground type legendary pokemon is said to be the personification of the land itself. Legends tell of its many clashes against Kyogre, as each sought to gain the power of nature. It has access to Mud Shot and Earthquake. It can charge up, and deal damage quickly.

Mega Evolved Pokemon

Unfortunately, Megas are not recommended against Heatran as it is double weak to ground type moves, and the only ground-boosting mega, Mega Steelix, Is not an effective counter for it.

Budget
If you don’t have any of the best counters listed, don’t worry! As there are plenty of budget counters that work great. Rhydon, Golurk, Golem, Swampert, Donphan and Mamoswine are some great budget counters.

The best moveset for all of these is Mud Slap or Mud Shot for fast moves, and Earthquake, Earth Power and Bulldoze for charged moves.
